During the 2011 Summer Art
Tour, I was approached by a couple who asked me to create a table using a slab from a 400-year old pine that they
had purchased on a trip out west. The father of one of the customers had worked as a cobbler, so the
couple also supplied me with a vintage iron shoemakers' stand, in case I could find a way to incorporate it into
the piece. That sentimental piece gave me inspiration and became the focal point of this unique table, "Stepping
Back." Stepping Back incorporates not only the shoemakers' stand, but also other antique metal pieces and a
glass cover from a antique railroad sign.
